Excel tool

The BioGrace Excel tool is part of the recognised BioGrace GHG calculation tool.

It shows the calculation of the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions default values of all 22 biofuel production pathways given in the Renewable Energy Directive (2009/28/EC) Annex V part A in a transparent and detailed way. You will be able to reproduce the default values as well as to perform individually adapted calculations. The calculation is based on our list of standard values and follows the methodology laid down in Renewable Energy Directive.

For individually adapted calculations the tool allows to

  • use individual input numbers
  • calculate emissions from direct land use change
  • calculate N2O field emissions
  • calculate emissions savings from improved agricultural management
  • define own standard values
  • add process steps to an existing biofuel production chain (e.g. add drying step, or extra transport step)
  • set up completely new biofuel production chains.

The 22 default biofuel production pathways are:

  • Ethanol from sugarbeet
  • Ethanol wheat (process fuel not specified)
  • Ethanol wheat (lignite as process fuel in CHP plant)
  • Ethanol wheat (natural gas as process fuel in conventional boiler)
  • Ethanol wheat (natural gas as process fuel in CHP plant)
  • Ethanol wheat (straw as process fuel in CHP plant)
  • Ethanol from corn
  • Ethanol from sugarcane
  • Biodiesel from rape seed
  • Biodiesel from sunflower
  • Biodiesel from soy
  • Biodiesel from palm oil (process not specified)
  • Biodiesel from palm oil (process with methane capture at oil mill)
  • Biodiesel from waste vegetable or animal oil
  • HVO rape seed
  • HVO sunflower
  • HVO palm oil
  • HVO palm oil (methane capture)
  • PVO rape seed
  • Biogas - municipal organic waste
  • Biogas - dry manure
  • Biogas - wet manure.
